Before Danish design had a name, Finn Juhl was already breaking its rules.
Designed in 1945, the No. 45 arrived at a moment when furniture was still expected to be modest, structural, grounded. Juhl ignored all of it. The seat and back float free of the frame — suspended, almost sculptural — as if the chair had been carved from an idea rather than assembled from parts.
Critics called it too artistic. Time called it timeless.
